While epoxy is a robust, durable flooring option, it's initially applied as a liquid. It takes time to become the hard surface we're familiar with.
This article will discuss the installation and curing process for epoxy, as well as outline the steps you should take (or, rather, the steps you shouldn't take) to ensure your flooring cures correctly.
The First Coat
On the first day of installation, your Speckle™ Crew will clean and sand your floor, before applying the first layer of epoxy resin. This layer will bond with the concrete below and provide a base color for the flooring.
If you've chosen a color with speckles, those will be placed on top of the first coat.
Before the protective top coat can be added, this layer will need to cure overnight.
The Top Coat
On the second day of installation, your crew will add the polyaspartic top coat.
This polyaspartic coating is a high performance polymer that behaves similar to epoxy. However, epoxy isn't as durable, and polyaspartic will be much more resistant to scuffs, scratches, and chips.
Once the top coat is poured, your Speckle™ Floor is complete! The only thing left to do is wait.
Proper Curing Directions
Before walking on your new flooring, you should wait at least 24 hours, after which the epoxy and top coat should be set enough for light use.
Even though you'll be able to walk on it, vehicles weigh a lot more than humans do:, you'll need to wait a minimum of 5 days before parking or driving on the floor.
Additionally, avoid turning your vehicle's wheels when parked on the epoxy for around 30 days.
After 30 days, your Speckle™ flooring will be completely set and ready for regular use!
